Lanta Island
Koh Lanta Yai is located off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea, between the Phi Phi Islands islands and the mainland. Approximately 30 km long and 6 km wide, the island is part of the Koh Lanta archipelago covering approximately 180 square kms. Koh Lanta Yai is less well known than the nearby Phi Phi islands and Phuket island and being somewhat less less developed offers accommodations from very rustic bamboo huts up to some new and modern resorts. There is mainly a ring road, mostly paved that allows for comfortable travel throughout the island. Ban Saladan, the main town and port, is located at the northern tip of the island and is served by ferries from Krabi, Phuket and Phi Phi. The main beaches are located on the west of the island, of which the largest are Klong Dao, Pra-Ae (Long Beach) and Klong Khong Beach. There are other beaches at the southern end that are less accessible.
