Phi Phi Island
The Phi Phi Islands are located in the Andaman Sea 50 km south-east of Phuket island off the western coast of the mainland. The islands are administratively part of Krabi province and Koh Phi Phi Don ("koh" means "island" in Thai) is the largest of the six-island group, and is the only island with permanent inhabitants, although the second largest island, Koh Phi Phi Lee (or "Koh Phi Phi Leh"), is visited by many people for the great beaches. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Noi, and Bamboo Island (Koh Mai Phai), are hardly more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea. The local Thai population of Phi Phi Don is more than 80% Muslim, however, the actual population is much more Buddhist.
